Sundays in the UK
Philip Davies | July 8, 2011
Goodbye News of the World . The paper that was read more is now no more because of phone hacking. So goodbye, cruel world.
But what now for the newly created void on Sunday? What now for the 2.6 million readers loyal to this title, those devotees of the NOTW brand? What now for the 168-year heritage? A successful brand wiped out overnight. As George Orwell observed in 1946 when describing the perfect Sunday, “you put your feet up on the sofa, settle your spectacles on your nose, and open the News of the World.” How ironic that what brought down the paper was invasive voyeurism of the big brother variety.
